Canon Revolutionises New Media & Photography
An explosion in broadband connectivity and maturation of tools and platforms over the last several years has radically shifted the terrain of design for the web. It has evolved beyond its origins as a medium best suited to information delivery into a rich ecosystem of interdisciplinary influences: film, television, video games, animation, music composition, software, commerce, information, architecture, and editorial design, to name only the most prominent.
The introduction of Flash Video has sparked a revolution in video use and web delivery, which we have barely began to tap into, that enables emotion and experience to take up their rightful place on the web alongside information and data.
As many photographers know Canon has just announced the much eagerly and awaited new Cannon 5D MK2 Digital SLR. The new innovation by Canon is set to expand the boundaries of photography as the digital SLR has the unique capability to record full HD video, with Full HD (1080) video recording to be exact. Rather than to bore you with numbers here are a few interesting features of the camera 21.1 Mega pixel full frame CMOS sensor and as its predecessor (the Canon 5D Mk1) it is still full frame camera. It also boasts the new image sensor DIGIC 4 also delivering split-second start-up times, Face Detection AF in Live View mode.
As many whom know me understand that I only shoot with Canon 5D and Canon 1DS MK3 is my preferred choice the long awaited introduction of the new 5D MK2 can be considered as essentially a combination of the best features of both 5D and 1DS MK3.
For me one of the most exciting capabilities is the feature to shoot video to memory card without losing the ability to capture stills and HDMI connection also allows High Definition playback of footage and images on an HDTV – simply breath taking given the size and weight of camera.
” This is Revolution not Evolution.”
This is guaranteed to spark an influx of new rich media, which has never been considered before. Designers and creatives alike will develop new creative synergies and methodologies of working, which will soon become the standard. Older workflows will become obsolete only to be replaced by the new strategies due to technological advancement which is always the case within Multimedia – This is Revolution not Evolution.

Naturally budding photographers can’t wait to get their hands on the first Digital SLR with Full HD (1080, 30fps) movie recording capability. Award wining and internationally acclaimed New York based photographer Vincent Laforet is the first to test run the camera before the official release at consumer level.
Vincent Laforet has produced a short film to reveal some of the 5D Mk2 capabilities adequately named REVERIE, an independently-produced short video.
Official Canon demo reel – an insight to new creativity and synergy between cross disciplines.
